Life Group FAQs
Life Groups at Ignite
Ignite Church exists to advance the Kingdom of God by making strong disciples. We believe that strong disciples are best made in the context of community, or Life Groups.
Life Groups are small groups of people that meet in and around the Fargo-Moorhead area throughout the week to study Scripture together, grow together, and serve the city together.
(Acts 2:42–47 ESV) “And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”
1) What is a Life Group like?
We hope to have Life Group environments that are safe, welcoming, and filled with friendly and authentic people.
“As an awkward newcomer to Ignite, and to Jesus, I didn’t know what to expect. My anxiety was quickly quieted. I remember feeling grateful for this room of warm and friendly strangers. Their special care and willingness to let me proceed at my own pace helped me get comfortable and eventually invite Jesus and some new friends into my life. It was pretty cool how folks followed up and took the time to get to know me outside of our group meeting.” —Jim S., Testimony
2) What happens at a typical Life Group meeting?
When you arrive for Life Group, you can expect to be greeted by the leaders and welcomed inside. Life Groups usually spend a few minutes catching up from the previous week with coffee and snacks before beginning discussion. The majority of time will be spent studying the Bible and participating in encouraging, sermon-based discussion. To close the meeting, Life Groups spend some time praying for one another. It is not uncommon for people to stay and mingle after closing in prayer.
3) Where do Life Groups meet?
Life Groups meet in people’s houses in and around the Fargo-Moorhead area.
4) How often does a Life Group get together and how long does a meeting last?
Life Groups meet once a week and each meeting lasts around 1½ – 2 hours.
5) Do Life Groups meet all year long?
No. Our Life Group calendar contains three semesters with one-month breaks between each: Winter, Summer, and Fall. The Winter semester meets from January–March and takes April off; the Summer semester meets from May–July and takes August off; and the Fall semester is from September–November and takes December off.
6) When can I join a Life Group?
You are welcome to join a Life Group at any time. You will see more promotion for Life Groups at the beginning of each of the three semesters.
7) Are Life Groups co-ed?
We have men only, women only, and anyone groups. Groups may offer childcare for your infant or toddler; check with the group leader regarding childcare specifics.
8) Are there specific Life Groups for my junior or senior high school student?
No. We believe strong disciples are best made in the context of multi-generational community. We encourage parents to include their older children and teens in Life Group communities and discussions. We also have Life Groups specifically for families, called Family-Integrated Life Groups. You can visit our website (Ignite Life Groups) to see when those Life Groups meet.
9) What happens if I miss a Sunday and did not hear the sermon?
No worries! If you happen to miss the sermon, you can always listen online. The sermon is posted every Sunday night at www.ignite-church.com and on the Ignite Church Moorhead mobile app. Sermon-based discussion outlines can also be found on the app.
10) Can I visit more than one Life Group to find one that best fits what I am looking for?
Yes, please feel free to visit more than one group to find the best fit for you.
